I was on a sight-seeing sea trip in earthquake territory, the evidence of past quakes were written all over the landscape; sudden drops in the ocean floor where the land had literally been rent asunder. I was so impressed that I felt compelled to manifest it in a design. The rift table represents those rents and in this case they create a space for you to display your favoured objects. In this picture these are the spent shells of sea urchins dived for in those same seas.
The peaks of the textured surface are set at the same height as the glass and hence anything with a base wider than 14mm (1/2”) will stand upon the surface. The toughened glass centre panel can be lifted off and some favoured items displayed within the 1300 x 140 x 56mm space.
Made for you
These pieces have been chosen because we love them and have proven to be irrepressibly popular and you’ve demanded we make them again and hopefully again and again. They are not faits accomplis, or written in tablets of stone; their dimensions, materials and finishes can be tweaked. This may begin to nudge them towards, or indeed run headlong into, our Slow Furniture-Making Society and the price differences that will entail. All will be agreed before the onset of construction.
