Last week I delivered a small work table to the daughter of longstanding clients & came face to face with past work. In this case a 'Tumbling Box' storage & display piece & a kitchen table, chairs & nic-nac storage cabinet. Their glorious possession of it breaths animated life into the pieces. It never ceases to amaze & bring joy into my life when returning to homes with our work within them. Coming face to face with people enjoying their everyday with our designs. I was visiting a client in the Surrey Hills and found myself close to the gorgeous social enterprise cafe 'The Forge' at Shamley Green, Surrey @forge_on_the_green I designed the cafe furniture for two wonderful clients who had generously sponsored an apprentice of ours a few years back. He has subsequently grown into being one of our treasured senior makers and in this case had the privilege of leading the team to make & instal the work. A year later it is looking even more scrummy as its been rammed with delicious goodies to snack or feast upon. As always the work is bought to life by you the public, be you clients or cafe goers. Thank you for being so beautifully decorous. The delightful @Stantonguildhouse founded on the sound principles of chief fundraiser Mary Osborn who in the early 60s walked from Gloucestershire to London, following the advice and example of her colleague Mahatma Gandhi, set up her spinning wheel outside St Paul's cathedral and started raising the money to build a guildhouse where her ideas could be shared and practiced. The Guildhouse was indeed built through those funds, by volunteers & well wishers and stands today as a functioning memorial to the values of her motto 'laborare est orare' to work is to pray. We have been designing and making furniture for this lovely place for twenty five years, almost entirely funded by donation. We are about to embark upon another round which will see beds and mirrors in the bedrooms. Then its back to the drawing board & more fund raising for chests-of-drawers & bedside cabinets.
