The curve at the front of this cabinet is made up of horizontal bands of bog oak and each one diminishes by 1mm as they rise up the cabinet. Thus each of the six drawers has six bands in their height, allowing each drawer to decrease in height with the band widths of their fronts remaining in proportion. This piece was designed to celebrate the end of an apprenticeship and to test the skills of the its maker after six years’ training. See more about wood here.
