SEVEN ROOM FANTASY PAVILION
SEVEN ROOM FANTASY PAVILION
ABOUT
The early 1980s recession, and its resultant slowdown in interiors commissions, prompted us to respond with alternative services. We came up with our Fantasy Pavilions. The concept was to design and make a lively, imaginative space for children to play in but for adults to aesthetically appreciate and live with.
All made from second thinnings from the woods, this seven-roomed version was the largest, with the more public setting in mind. This design allowed children to have separate play spaces whilst the whole is interconnected. Secret attack and defend entrances, tables, ladders, escape routes and metaphoric air rifle targets all became springboards for the imagination.
These photographs shows the original Pavilion, installed at the Hurlingham Club, London. Due to popular demand, we’ve recently replaced it, like for like, and have enjoyed the lovely comments from parents who played on the original when they were young, now delighting in their children similarly enjoying the updated version.
