BOW-FRONTED CHEST OF DRAWERS

Rather than use very large pieces of wood to achieve the drawer-front curves, which would be wasteful, we built on the 18th century technique of veneering, with our own workshop-cut veneers. We add to this the 20th century technique of laminating, using horizontal bands of veneer to achieve texture across the piece. The top of each drawer we sculpt into a flared propeller edge, which allows us to create the handle and give a second curve. Two curves for the price of one.

All the drawers are on full-extension, soft self-closing runners, thus allowing access to the full depth of the drawer. There is an additional option of having the sides ‘pyramidalized’ to emphasise the jewel-like quality of the wood.
