CANTI II

This piece was inspired by a visit to London and, emerging from Waterloo, counting the various cranes over the city. Being of a delightful, cantilevered structure, they would point towards or away from various landmarks.

I was in town to visit a client and it transpired they were looking for me to design “a welcoming introductory piece for the hallway”; one that would beckon them inside the house. My mind slipped back to the cranes and they’re pointing the way.

The surface is decorated with diagonal grooves, adding textural detail that catches the light in different ways at different times of the day.

This piece was awarded a Bespoke Guild Mark and the Masters’ Gold Award by the Furniture Makers’ Company.
